Boz

Boz is a one-year old male Merle Dane puppy with lots of love to give. He came to RMGDRI from a puppy mill in Missouri with health problems and extremely neglected. RMGDRI has nursed this precious boy back to health and while he still is slow to warm up to people, he is very loving and a loyal companion once he is comfortable. He is gaining confidence every day! Boz has a submissive personality and gets along well with the four other dogs in his foster home. He does look to the other dogs for guidance and will benefit from regular doggie interaction if adopted into a single-dog home. He is good with cats and kids and is just an all-around sweetheart. He shows no food aggression and is learning to take treats gently. He is crate trained and house trained. He loves tug-of-war and is learning to play with other toys as well. Boz was born with crooked legs and RMGDRI’s veterinarian has performed three corrective surgeries. His legs will never be perfectly straight but he doesn’t realize he is different than the other dogs. It definitely does not stop him from having the zoomies with the best of them. Boz also enjoys car rides and going to the dog park. This sweet boy has blossomed into a truly loving and devoted companion with lots of love to give a family willing to accept him for who he is! Boz came to RMGDRI in July of 2007.

Zane

Zane is an energetic 2 year old male black Great Dane mix with natural ears. His picture says it all...”Come play with me!” Zane is an energetic, playful guy who has matured tremendously while in Rescue. He came to us as a stray from Kansas with no manners and no training. His foster family has done a tremendous job teaching him manners, basic commands, house training and crate training. Zane is very treat motivated which will be beneficial for his continued training. He loves to play with other dogs his own size and is learning to be gentle with the smaller ones. He does have a dominant personality and will do better in a forever home with submissive dogs. Zane is a true lover and his stubby tail wags 90 mph in excitement. Zane has been given free roam for short periods of time and has done well with no destructive behavior. Zane is a true character and a very vocal boy. He will talk to you in the morning as well as greet you with a "rumble" every time you come home. Zane will thrive in a home full of activity where he can be exercised regularly. He would also benefit from having a playmate his size to rough house with. He is still very much a puppy and just wants to be loved!

Marilyn

Marilyn is a sweet 8 year old, chocolate merle, female Dane with natural ears. Marilyn can be described in one word – “amazing”. She will make a perfect addition to any family. Marilyn came to RMGDRI extremely overweight at 147 lbs but through the diligent efforts of her foster family she is now a svelte 113 lbs. Since her weight loss, she is now an energetic girl who does not act her age. She gets along well with other dogs and cats and absolutely loves her foster kitty. She snuggles on the couch with him when the cat allows. She is a very smart girl and knows which cupboard holds her food which she has learned to open. As a result, her foster family has locked the cabinet with a baby lock. Marilyn is a definite couch potato and bed hog. While she is not allowed on the bed, she will quietly sneak onto the bed in the middle of the night. She is fully house trained and knows all her basic commands. She also does well with free roam while her foster family is away. Marilyn can be walked easily with or without her gentle leader. Marilyn is a sweet lady with a lot of life and love to give to her new forever family.

Jumangi

Jumangi is a handsome, 8 year old, Merle, male Dane with natural ears. He is a very big boy and weighs around 155 lbs. He is a typical lazy Dane who likes to lounge around on the couch or nap on his dog bed. Jumangi is good with dogs of all sizes, cats, and kids. He is house trained, not destructive, very smart, and knows sit, stay, come, go, left, and right. He loves to go for walks, ride in the car, and lean on his humans. Jumangi is very friendly and outgoing and just wants to be loved! He has a torn cruciate and underwent TPLO surgery on November 3rd. He is healing wonderfully and is ready to go to his forever home when the right family comes along.

Noel

Noel is a beautiful, 3 year old, Black, female Dane with natural ears. She has been a mama previously and has clearly lived a life of neglect. Her coat was filthy and suggests she has lived mostly outdoors, but she was happy to get a bath and be touched. Noel is skittish with any loud noises or sudden movements. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body and will drop to the ground in submission. Her foster family will be working on teaching her about indoor living, basic training, and boosting her confidence. She is good with dogs and cats and just needs time to get comfortable and come out of her shell. Noel is very sweet and loving and desperate to become a part of a family who will love her like she deserves! She will loyally follow you wherever you go.

Ellie

Ellie is a beautiful, 7 year old, Harlequin, female with natural ears. She is mostly white and came to us very overweight, but she is down to 129 lbs now and looking great! She is house trained, not destructive, can use a dog door, and knows sit, come, heel, and paw. Ellie is an angel on a leash, but unfortunately can't walk very far right now due to her weight problem. We will be working with her on some alternative therapy methods to help her get the weight off without putting too much strain on her joints. She is good with dogs, cats, and kids and has a submissive personality. Ellie loves to be covered with a blanket, has a very mellow, laid back personality, likes to "talk", and is a great cuddler. She has undergone two knee surgeries and is recovering nicely and is ready to go to her forever home anytime now.

Max

Max is a handsome, 6 year old, Black, Dane/Lab mix with cropped ears. He is very athletic and loves to run and play ball. He is house trained, not destructive, and knows sit, down, shake, and out of the kitchen. Max is extremely treat and praise motivated and just wants to make his people happy. He is convinced he is a lap dog and is very affectionate and loving to people. He will make a very loyal companion and follows his humans everywhere. Max is great with cats and good with submissive dogs. He loves to go for walks and does nicely on a leash with a gentle leader. He gives gentle kisses and is a great snuggler!

Sampson

Sampson is a handsome, 2 year old, Harlequin, male Dane with natural ears. He is house trained, crate trained, not destructive, and knows sit, stay, and down. He is great with other dogs, cats, and kids and has a very submissive personality. Sampson is very loving and a true gentle giant. He is timid in new environments, but warms up quickly and just wants to be loved. He came to us extremely emaciated, but has put on quite a bit of weight since his arrival. Sampson has been diagnosed with Wobbler's and is responding well to steroid treatment and regular exercise. Dr. Cuddon feels that he can maintain quality of life without surgery. Despite his condition, he is just a goofy puppy who loves to run and play!

Princess

Princess is a beautiful, 2 year old, Black female with cropped ears. One of them flops on her head and doesn't stand up most of the time, which adds to her charm! She has a very shiny coat, but is quite skinny right now so her foster family will be working on fattening her up. Princess loves to run and play with other submissive dogs and kids and we will be testing her with cats. She is a typical Dane who loves to snuggle with her humans and she gives sweet, gentle kisses. She is house trained and knows most of her basic commands. Princess is very treat and praise motivated and will make a very special addition to her forever home.

Jazzi

Jazzi is a spunky 6 year old, brindle female Great Dane with natural ears. Jazzi is a true people pleaser and enjoys her humans. She loves to bury her head in your lap for head rubs and cuddling is her favorite pastime. Jazzi’s personality does not do well with other female dogs or small dogs but she is thriving in her foster home with another male dog. She is somewhat nervous around small children, so we recommend a home with kids over 10 years of age. Despite her age, Jazzi is very energetic and loves to run at the dog park. Her favorite toy is her ball which she carries everywhere and she even sleeps with it. Jazzi is very well behaved and is eager to please her humans. She is house trained, walks nicely on a leash and knows her basic commands and then some. While she is crate trained, it is not necessary as she is trustworthy with free roam. She is a wonderful ambassador for the Great Dane breed and will make a loyal companion.

Winston

Winston is a handsome, 2 year old, Merle, male Dane with natural ears. He is a very sweet and loving boy! He came into rescue completely emaciated at only 94 lbs, so he needs a lot of groceries to get up to a healthy weight. Winston is good with dogs, cats, and older kids. He is house trained and his foster family will be working on crate training and basic commands. He is very eager to please, treat motivated, and a typical Dane who is happiest when spending time with his humans. Winston is a leaner, a couch potatoe, and likes to ride in the car. He is a goofball and has a lot of love to give some lucky family! He underwent surgery for blockage and was recently diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, a condition which is easily managed with a special diet and medication.

Astro

Astro is a handsome, 1.5 year old, Harlequin, male Dane with natural ears. He is deaf and does suffer from cataracts and is losing his vision. He is just about as sweet as they come and has no idea that he isn't completely normal! Astro is wonderful with dogs of all sizes and loves to play at doggie daycare. He is also great with cats and doesn't seem to have a mean bone in his body. He is house trained, good on a leash, and his foster family will be working with him on basic commands and crate training. Astro loves to play with tennis balls, lean on his humans for pets, and he is very agile. He is completely emaciated right now, so his foster family will be working on bulking him back up to a healthy weight. He has a lot of love to give a special family willing to take on a special needs Dane.

Zumba

Zumba is a 2 year old, fawn, female Great Dane with natural ears and a merle mask. Zumba is a wonderful people dog; following her humans everywhere and just wanting to be loved. She will boldly approach just about anyone and is quite submissive with people both adults and children. She loves face rubs and rolls over for belly rubs. Zumba is crate trained and completely house trained. She enjoys being in her crate when left alone as it is her “safe place”. Zumba’s dilemma is dealing with other dogs. Because of her fear and insecurity around dogs, Zumba reacts negatively both on- and off-leash. It will be critical that her forever family understand her nature and be willing to continually work with her. She will also need to be the only dog in the family. While this problem does require a special family, we hope it will not overshadow her incredible sweet and loving nature. She is currently thriving in her foster family where she is the only dog. She wags her tail constantly and gives gentle kisses. In the right circumstance, she will be a loyal companion.

Maggie

Maggie is a beautiful, 5 year old, Merle, female Dane with natural ears. She is a very sweet girl and her tail is constantly wagging! She is house trained, crate trained, and knows most of her basic commands, although she would benefit from a strong pack leader and continued training. Sosha

Sosha is a beautiful, 5 year old, Brindle, female Dane with natural ears. She is house trained, not destructive with free roam, and knows sit, lay down, no, and come. Alicia

Alicia is a precious 5-month old female Brindle Dane with natural ears. She was abandoned by her previous owners and turned into a shelter where RMGDRI rescued her. Due to Alicia’s unstable living conditions, she is timid around new people and dogs, however, her foster family reports she is making great strides in this area. She does best with slow introductions to both people and other dogs. Once she is comfortable, she is an absolute love bug and thoroughly enjoys wrestling with the other dogs in her foster family. She has even made several trips to doggie daycare and has really come out of her shell. She does have a tendency to play too rough with smaller dogs and needs to be supervised until she learns to be gentler. Alicia responds very well to correction with a simple “uh huh” or “no”. She knows to listen to people for direction and guidance. Alicia is crate trained and is actually more comfortable sleeping in her crate full of blankets and towels than given free reign of the dog room. She starts the evening on the couch and then has a potty break before going to her crate for the evening. While she has had a few accidents in her crate, she has now learned to bark in order to go outside thus eliminating these accidents. Alicia does not show any signs of food aggression and sits patiently until her food is given to her. She eats best by herself so as not to be distracted from the goings-on in the house. Alicia is a “dog-toy” dog oftentimes tossing them in the air and collecting them on her dog bed for a chew session later. She walks well on a leash and enjoys walks. She is getting better at off-leash excursions and responds well to her name. Alicia travels well in the car.

Panga

Panga is a beautiful, 5 year old, Black, female Dane with natural ears. She lived most of her life on a puppy mill and has been bred to death and neglected, but you would never know it when you meet this sweet girl! She does not hold her past against us humans, is very friendly and loving to all she meets, and truly doesn't have a mean bone in her body. Panga weighs around 123 lbs and is very happy to finally be receiving the love and attention she deserves. She is good with dogs, cats, and kids. She is house trained, not destructive, knows sit, and gives high fives!

JD

JD is a handsome, 2 year old, Harlequin, male Dane with natural ears. He is mostly white with only a few black spots and has one blue eye and one eye that is half brown, half blue. He is a very sweet boy who is starved for attention and wags his tail constantly! JD went deaf about a year ago, but it doesn't hold him back for a second. He is wonderful with other dogs and looks to them for guidance. He is also very gentle with kids and we will be testing him with cats. JD is house trained, crate trained, walks nicely on a leash, and knows some hand commands. He is very treat motivated due to the fact that he is currently skin and bones and was only fed 1 can of fruit per day in his previous home. He is very sweet and loving and eager to please his humans despite his past neglect.

Nodin

Nodin is a handsome, 6 year old, Black, male Dane with cropped ears. He is a typical lazy Dane who likes to relax on the couch and watch TV with his humans. He has a blankie that he sucks on his security blanket, loves to go for car rides, and is a bigtime leaner. He does limp on his front left leg a little due to osteo-arthritis in his shoulder, so we will be working with our vet to get him more comfortable. Nodin is a gentle giant and will make a very special addition to his new family.

Braun

Braun is a handsome 5-year old mantle male Dane with cropped ears. Braun came to RMGDRI after being dumped at the Humane Society of Utah. He was horribly neglected with open sores on his paws, infected ears, and barely able to walk. After a visit to RMGDRI’s vet, it was determined that both his knees suffer from arthritis and because of his constant pain, he used his back legs very little thus deteriorating their muscles. Despite his rough past, Braun is a true lover and craves human affection. He can always be found sleeping close by his humans. He also enjoys the company of his four-legged foster sisters and co-exists peacefully with cats. Braun is completely housetrained and knows his basic commands. He enjoys going for car rides and refuses to be left behind on afternoon walks. His most unique traits are his ability to use the bathroom sink as his water bowl and his quirky special bark which resembles a baying sound more than a bark. Through his foster family’s diligent efforts, Braun’s pain is now being managed and as a result, he is building muscle through regular exercise and is becoming a brand new dog. He takes a daily regimen of medication for pain, allergies, and joint relief that will be required through the rest of his years. Braun is a deserving boy that needs a family that understands and is willing to work with his medical condition. However, we do not consider him special needs only deserving of some extra TLC!

Al

Al is a handsome, 1.5 year old, Harlequin, male Dane with natural ears. He is a very tall boy with lots of filling out to do still! He is deaf and has extremely limited vision as well, so he is very special needs. Al has been locked outside all of his life and indoor living is a whole new concept for him. He is very friendly and outgoing and his tail wags constantly despite the fact that the world must be quite intimidating for him. He is great with other dogs and is a big, clumsy oaf who has no idea how big he is and plays rough. Al is good with older kids, but would probably be best in a home with no small children due to his disabilities. He is a leaner and a lover and will make a very special addition for the right family.

Ginger

Ginger is a beautiful, 4 year old, Fawn, female Dane with natural ears. She is a very shy and timid in new situations, but warms up and bonds quickly. Odie is house trained, crate trained, and knows quite a few hand commands. He is very sweet, loving, and a great cuddler. He is all puppy and likes to play and chew on toys. Calibo

Calibo is a handsome, 4 year old, Brindle, male Dane with natural ears. He was found as a stray so not much is known about his history, but it is clear that he has never received the love and care he deserves as evidenced by how skinny and timid he is. He is very sweet, gentle, and sensitive and desperately wants to be part of a home and family. Calibo's foster family will be working on basic training and fattening him up right away. He is good with other dogs as long as introductions are done slowly and we will be testing him with cats. He appears to be very eager to please and treat motivated and is a leaner and a lover.

Cain

Cain is a charming 7 year old Merle, male Great Dane with floppy cropped ears. Cain is the perfect gentleman who knows all his basic commands; does not sleep on the furniture; is completely house-trained; and takes treats gently from your hand. He is full of playful energy and loves playing with balls and ropes. He enjoys playing at the dog park interacting well with the other dogs and is very obedient responding well to his name. Cain is the “Michael Jordan” of Great Danes standing almost 4 feet at the top of his head and weighing in at around 120 lbs. Because of his height, he is able to counter-surf with ease and his long, constantly wagging tail clears a coffee table without him even knowing. When Cain’s family is not home with him, he does best with his own “safe place” to which he can retreat in order to make him feel more comfortable. Cain has a very expressive face and will let you know when he is content with a smile. In the words of his foster mom, “I think he is going to be a great addition to someone's family.”

Jackson

Jackson is a handsome, 2 year old, Black, male Dane with natural ears. He has a big blocky head, huge jowls, and will be a big boy when he fills out although he is currently very underweight at around 125 lbs. He is house trained, crate trained, and very eager to please his humans. Jackson is great with dogs, cats, and kids and has a submissive personality. He is a lover and a cuddler and a very happy boy who wags his tail constantly. He was hit by a car recently and underwent surgery on the 24th to repair a shattered femur. Jackson also has a broken toe, but he is a fighter and won't let it hold him back.

Pilot

Pilot is a handsome, 1.5 year old, Black, male Dane with natural ears. He is a very sweet puppy, loves to run and play, and is eager to please his humans! He is house trained, crate trained, and knows his basic commands. Pi loves toys and even knows how to fetch! He needs slow intoductions with other dogs, is curious about cats and will need a strong leader. We are currently looking into a possible hip problem. He is a typical Dane who loves to lean, has no idea how big he is, and is happiest when spending time with his humans. Pi has a lot of love to give!

Mazie

Mazie is a very cute 8 month old matle female with natural ears. Mazie is currently suffering from a skin infection but is already making progress. She is great with dogs of all sizes, cats, and kids of all ages. Mazie is crate trained and house trained and is learning basic obedience in her foster home. Mazie is a very goofy girl with lots of puppy energy and needs a playmate. She has been given the nickname "Dizzy" by her foster Dad since she seems to always be headed somewhere in a hurry and will do cicles when it is time to eat!

Patches

Patches is a beautiful 5 year old female Harlequin (white and blue markings) Dane with natural ears. Although Patches was found as a stray in NM, she loves people both kids and adults. She is a total Velcro Dane and follows her foster family everywhere. Patches is being fostered with both large and small dogs (all females) and cats, and is just in heaven. In fact, Patches even sleeps comfortably while a cat lays on her. She is currently overweight at 134 lbs and her foster family is working on getting her to a better weight. She has no food aggression and eats well with the other dogs at meal time. She is patient when receiving treats. Patches sleeps through the night. She is house trained and has no accidents in the house. She will talk in her quiet “Dane voice” to let you know she needs to go out, especially if you don’t listen right away. She is very obedient and knows her basic commands. She does not get on the furniture and enjoys sleeping on her dog bed. While Patches is a very large dog both in stature and weight, she is not hard to walk but she must understand who is in charge so she will not pull hard on her lead. She loves going for car rides.

Patches has a mild case of hip dysplasia and will need to be on pain medication for the rest of her life. She doesn't have any trouble getting around but should go to a home with minimal stairs.

Ruby

Ruby is a beautiful 6-7 year old, fawn, female Great Dane with cropped ears. Ruby was surrendered to RMGDRI by her owners due to financial circumstances. Part of her charm is her one floppy ear and laid-back personality. Eating is Ruby’s favorite pastime as evidenced by her 201 lbs. She is currently on a diet and needs to lose around 30-40 lbs. Because of her current weight, she struggles slightly to get up and down including getting in and out of the car however she does have short bursts of energy to play with her foster brother. Ruby is very social and enjoys mingling with the many visitors (both two-legged and four-legged) at her foster family’s home. While she can be skittish with loud noises, Ruby is settling in more and more every day. Ruby does not know all her basic commands; however, her mellow personality makes her easy to work with. She is completely house-trained and will let you know when it is time to go outside. She does well with free roam and has shown no signs of destructive behavior. Ruby enjoys her walks but will need a gentle leader as she is a puller. Currently, off-leash time is restricted as she is not familiar with her surroundings and she feels the need to escape. Overall, Ruby is a big sweetheart that will make a perfect addition to her forever family. Ruby came to RMGDRI in April 2008.

Sullivan

Sullivan is a handsome 1-year old male Black Dane/Bloodhound mix. He has a shorter build, Dane face and big bellowing bark like a Bloodhound. He is full of energy and loves to run and wrestle with dogs of all sizes. He has a blast at doggie daycare and the staff just adores him. Sully oftentimes can’t choose which toy to play with so he just piles ALL of them on his bed to enjoy. He has an excellent appetite and is definitely a growing boy. He is learning to wait patiently for his food; however, he does get so excited for meal time that it’s hard to wait patiently sometimes. Sully’s foster family is working on his attention span and basic commands. As with any puppy, he does much better with his commands when the other dogs aren’t around to distract him. He wants to please and is extremely treat motivated and just loves a good rub down and hug. He is learning not to jump and to only give “hugs” on command. Sully is house trained and crate trained. While he will sometimes whine or bark in his crate because he thinks he might be missing something, he will settle in quickly. At night, sometimes he falls asleep on the dog bed and will stay out for the night with no problems. He walks nicely on a leash and does not need a gentle leader to keep from pulling. He stays close to his foster family when off-leash and responds well to his name. Sullivan travels well in the car. Sullivan came to RMGDRI in March 2008.

Ace

Ace is a precocious 1 year old, brindle, male Dane/Bull Mastiff with natural ears and a black mask. Ace was returned to RMGDRI by a family that was not prepared to work with a puppy. He gets excited easily and does jump on people. He is a big boy and his foster family is working diligently to teach him some manners. He also needs some additional house training but he is learning quickly. His foster family has figured out a nightly routine with potty breaks and his accidents are becoming fewer. Ace is an eager eater and has a cute habit of eating lying down. He also likes to steal nibbles from the other dog’s food when he is not looking. He does well with dogs of all sizes, children of all ages and cats. Ace knows sit and down and his foster family is continuing his training. He loves treats and will lay down and roll over for one as he gets so excited. As any puppy, Ace loves playing with toys – balls, tuggs, rope toys. He can be a little shy at first meetings but warms up quickly and really enjoys belly rubs and being brushed. Ace loves his humans and will make a loyal companion.

Buddy

Buddy is an extremely mellow 8 year old, male Harlequin Great Dane. Buddy originally came to RMGDRI with his sister when his owner passed away. He has now been returned to RMGDRI because his new family’s other dogs were too rough with him. Buddy is the perfect example of why Great Danes are called gentle giants. He does not have a mean bone in his body and just wants to be close to his humans. He is very submissive and loves to sniff people and then rest his head against them for pets. He enjoys other dogs and children of all ages. Buddy has excellent house manners and loves to sleep on the couch and in bed with you, if you will let him. He currently has an open sore on his leg which RMGDRI is treating with antibiotics. It should heal with no future problems. He is completely house trained and is crate trained, however because he is not destructive, he is left with free roam. He walks well with a gentle leader and enjoys meeting new people everywhere he goes. Buddy is happiest when being a couch potato with his humans. He will make a perfect addition to any household.

Domino

Domino is an energetic 19 month old, male, Harlequin with natural ears. Domino’s family turned him in to the Animal Shelter for financial reasons. Domino is tall and lanky at 117 lbs. and extremely athletic. He is full of energy and is always looking for someone to play tug-o-war with him. He is like the energizer bunny...he keeps on going and going. He is ready to play any time, any place and with any one! He does play rough, so hang on to your end of the rope. He will definitely require a family that is active. He loves kids, plays well with other dogs and is good with cats. Domino knows his basic commands, is house trained and does well with free roam. He does like to counter surf and is especially happy when he finds a dish rag to chew on. His foster family is working on making the counter off limits. They are also working on keeping him off the furniture. Domino has a great personality and loves being the center of attention and is happiest when he is as close to his humans as possible including watching TV with them. He loves car rides, playing outside and walks. Domino wants to be your playmate!

Sugar

Sugar is a sweet 2 year old, female, Harlequin Dane mix with natural ears. She is a sweet girl that was dumped at a Kansas Shelter with a leg deformity. After arriving in Colorado, it was determined that Sugar was born without a joint in her shoulder and had never used her front leg. For her comfort, this leg was amputated and although Sugar is a tripod she has adjusted marvelously. She was ready to play two days after surgery. Sugar is expected to make a full recovery and has a long life ahead of her. Sugar is just a sweety with an extremely laid-back personality. She is house trained, crate trained and not destructive when left with free roam. Sugar enjoys dog of all sizes, children of all ages and gets along fine with cats. Sugar is ready to meet her forever family of her dreams.

Miley

Miley is a very bright, 1-2 year old, black female Dane with natural ears. Miley was discovered tied to a tree at an abandoned house in Kansas. Since being in a loving foster home, Miley is gaining confidence every day and exhibits typical Dane characteristics; talking back when she doesn’t get her way, constant tail wagging, jumping in the air with excitement, leaning on humans, and nudging you with her nose when she wants attention. She came into Rescue very thin and her foster family is successfully fattening her up; she has gained almost 20 lbs in one week. Miley sleeps on her dog bed next to her foster sister and she sleeps through the night. She is very treat motivated and knows all her basic commands. Miley spends alone time in her crate and while she is not eager to get in to her crate with positive reinforcement and a treat she will enter her crate. She is somewhat timid with loud noises and sudden movements. She will stick close to her humans and/or other foster siblings for security; however, she is gaining confidence every day. She is starting to initiate playful activity with her foster siblings and is finding her place in the pack. She is submissive toward other dogs. Miley is looking for a forever family that will love her forever.
