Welcome to our Adoptables Page. Listed below are the Great Danes currently available for
adoption through the Rocky Mountain Great Dane Rescue, Inc.

Adopting a Great Dane is a big decision. You are taking into your home a dog that is intelligent, loyal, fun loving, full of love, and yes, very large. A Dane is an ideal pet for the family wanting a large, indoor dog. Danes are very much "people" dogs and will want to be an integral part of your household. They are affectionate, protective without being aggressive, have a sense of humor, and are generally docile and have an even temperament.

The critical factor in successfully owning a Dane is time. The prospective Dane owner should be able to spend time with his/her Dane; the time requirement is far more crucial than the amount of space. Costs should also be a consideration as with a big dog everything costs more. Vet fees, training classes, food and supplies all add up quickly.

We at Rocky Mountain Great Dane Rescue, Inc. are committed to matching our Danes with good, responsible and loving new owners. We strive to make the best match we can. Our number one concern is for our Danes.

Rocky Mountain Great Dane Rescue, Inc. adopts to the following states: CO, KS, NE, WY and UT. We will also consider adopting to families that live on the border between NE and IA. We are currently expanding our region to include Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Arizona and South Dakota. If you live in an area outside our adoption area, check out our Rescue Resource page. Because of our home check requirement, we do not adopt out of the areas mentioned above.

All of the dogs that come through our rescue program are spayed or neutered before being adopted.

For more information on adopting, visit our FAQ page.

The first step in the adoption process is filling out an Adoption Application.

Along with the application, we request a $10 application fee. If you are faxing or e-mailing your completed application to us, this fee can be paid online at http://www.rmgreatdane.org/store/. Simply click on the donate icon and donate $10. Please indicate in the comments section (at the bottom of the page) that the $10 is for your application fee. You may also mail your completed application along with a check your fee to the PO Box listed on the application. This $10 fee goes directly to our medical fund.

Upon accepting a Great Dane into Rescue, RMGDRI accepts all responsibility for the care of the Dane. The majority of dogs that come to Rescue require basic veterinary care including, but not limited to, spay/neuter, routine shots, heartworm testing, and wellness exam. By the time a foster Dane finds a forever home, RMGDRI has spent, on average, $500. If a Dane requires major medical care, RMGDRI's expenses can be as much as $5,000. RMGDRI derives all of its operating funds from donations and adoption fees.

Prior to placing a foster dog with an adoptive family or scheduling a transport, RMGDRI must receive a signed Adoption Agreement and the specified Adoption Fee. Adoption Fees are set based on whether a dog is a Great Dane mix or Purebred as well as age. An Adoption Agreement and Adoption Fee may be accepted at the time of placement if this has been pre-arranged. A foster dog may NOT go home with the adoptive family without a signed Agreement and Adoption Fee.

Our non-refundable adoption fees are as follows:

Purebred Great Dane Mix
Under 2 yrs $350
2-6 yrs $300
7+ yrs $250
Under 2 yrs $250
2+ yrs $200
NOTE: Additional donations above and beyond the adoption fee are greatly appreciated and tax deductible.

Danes up for adoption as of June 30, 2009

Callie

Callie is a sweet and gentle 6 year old, Merle, female Dane with cropped ears, although they don't stand quite upright. She was rescued from a questionable breeder in Kansas, and is fully enjoying her new life in a real home. Her foster family fully enjoys her too! She is obedient, well mannered, and offers lots of gentle affection to all humans that she meets. Because of her past, she prefers to be the only dog in her forever family. She does fine when encountering most dogs, but is more relaxed when lounging at home with her humans. She has settled in nicely, is left with free roam, sleeps through the night on her dog bed, and is extremely gentle with the children and cat. She has really come a long way, and has bonded well with her foster family. She is now a typical velcro dane who follows her humans from room to room. She is energetic and enjoys romping through the backyard, as long as her humans are close by. And she loves picking up the kids from school as co-pilot in the car. She is also a definite couch potato, though she's not allowed on the couch (somehow the kids' beds are okay though?). She loves being with the family; and while she used to be an escape artist, she no longer wishes to be anywhere but with her family. Her favorite past time is lounging in the sun with her blanket on the front porch, which is not fenced. She is a joy to have around, even when she drools. At this point her only bad habit is that she sneaks food when her humans are gone, so all food has to be put away before they leave, even the butter! Funny that she has a beautiful, shiny coat?! And her relaxed sweetness more than makes up for her drooling and butter fettish. She will be a welcomed addition to a loving family.

Callie currently lives in a family(CO) with three children under the age of 8 and a stay-at-home mom. She has a large yard to run around in with a 4' fence. She currently lives with cats but no dogs.

Caden

Caden is a playful 5-year-old Mantle (black and white) male Dane with natural ears. He came to Rescue from an animal shelter, so not much is known about past. In the first few days with his foster family, Caden made himself right at home! He quickly befriended his foster sister siblings and quickly took to the family’s blind dog with friendly compassion. He is house trained, trustworthy with free roam, crate trained and a big fan of bones, chasing squirrels in the yard and sleep! Caden went through our Board & Train Program to improve his skills and socialization with other dogs, and he proved to be a very responsive and quick learner. He adores his humans and fellow canines. According to his foster family, Caden is a complete cuddle bug who loves to give and receive attention. His foster family is working on continuing his basic commands, and he is proving to be a very quick learner and eager to please. He is even beginning to learn to roll over. Caden is a very gentle soul and a genuine “Velcro Dane” who follows his humans around the house. In general, he is a bit of a couch potato indoors, but when he goes outside it’s every man – or dog! – for himself! Caden loves to run and play. Caden loves stuffed animals; he is a big fan of playing fetch and he knows his individual toys by name. This special boy will thrive with a family with the patience to continue his training and energy to keep up!

Caden's lives with his foster family in NE with six other dogs (one blind) and he adores them. He requires slow introductions and does better around friendly, clam females than active/dominant males. He is not a dog park dog. His foster family works from home but Caden is left on average for 3-5 hours a day.

Madison

Madison is a friendly 4-year-old female Mantle Dane with natural ears. She came to Rescue after being left at the Humane Society by owners that no longer wanted her and clearly mistreated her. Despite what we suspect was a rough past, Madison is not hand shy, skittish or aggressive at all; rather, she is a gentle, sweet girl who melts the hearts of everyone she meets. Madison is great with cats and children, however, since coming into Rescue, we have learned that she does not get along well with other dogs. She will do best where she can be the Queen Bee and not have to share her humans. She walks well on a leash, loves to stretch her legs and play outside, and is fully house- and crate-trained. She is a loyal companion who is very calm and quiet when indoors, and follows her humans from room to room. Her foster family says Madison “makes it easy to love her.” She is looking forward to finding a forever home that will give her all of the affection she so deserves and return her love tenfold!

Madison's foster family (NE) is very active with two other doggie playmates, 2 cats, and two teenage children. Madison has a yard to stretch her legs but she also goes on regular walks.

She originally came to Rescue when she was hit by a car and dropped off at a vet’s office, emaciated and badly injured. Lyla healed well in foster care and was since adopted; however, she did not adjust well due to her unknown traumatic past and insecurities, and the Rescue’s behavioralist felt it was best for her to return to her foster home environment, where she is currently working with her on her basic commands and improving her nutrition. Lyla is house- and crate-trained, and her adoptive family will need to continue crating her because it gives her a sense of security and safety when left alone. According to her foster mom, Lyla is a love bug and an absolute sweetheart! She loves going to the dog park and meeting new four-legged friends. Lyla is very active and loves to play. She is very attached to her foster brother Jackson and is constantly following him around. Lyla adores her foster cat sibling and will often wrestle and groom him. She also adores the three small children in her foster home. Lyla will make a happy and lovable addition to one lucky family with the patience to continue training her and making her feel secure.
