Business Partner of the Month
Each month, RMGDRI will showcase a business that supports the Rescue on a regular basis.
October 2009 - Convenient, Quick, Cheap and Charitable? You’ll Never Go to a Chain Again!

A single parent with three daughters between the ages of eight and 18, to say Karen Brady’s life is busy would be an understatement. Add in the successful operation of the business she co-owns with her brother, The Pet Food Courier, and “busy” takes on a whole new meaning.

But she does it in stride and doesn’t complain. On the contrary, Karen thrives under what many would consider the manic pace of her life. Why? Because, she says, it’s her opportunity and privilege to give back.

“It’s a blessing and an opportunity to walk alongside the Great Dane Rescue and other rescues, to be involved first-hand in education about taking responsibility of pets as family members,” Karen says.

The Pet Food Courier is an online store that delivers every conceivable brand of pet food and other pet products directly to customers’ doors for only a $5.00 delivery fee – that’s five dollars flat, no matter what. Karen has been in the pet industry for 10 years and opened the doors to the Pet Food Courier in January 2007.

“Our goal is just to stay competitive so everyone will be able to switch over to our company,” she says.

And switching over is not only good for Karen’s company – it’s great for rescues and other charities and non-profits all over. Because The Pet Food Courier donates a large portion of every sale directly to organizations – like the Rocky Mountain Great Dane Rescue (RMGDRI) – that depend on donations to survive.

“The heart and passion of our company to be involved in giving derives from my brother and our passion to give and our moral compass,” Karen explains. “We have a heart to give and to serve.”

Karen came to know the RMDGRI through volunteer Joy Soby more than a year ago and today her business contributes to the Rescue by delivering food to foster homes for free. She also set up a fundraiser page -- www.petfoodfundraiser.com/rmgdri.html -- where all Rescue supporters can go to buy products. A portion of the proceeds are always donated to the RMGDRI.

“We have more than 10,000 products. We try to stay as competitive as we can with the chains so we can help organizations and rescues reach out to their supporters who can support them by buying the things they would be purchasing anyway,” Karen says.

And as far as the RMGDRI goes, Karen is smitten. “I think this is the most impressive group of volunteers,” she says. “I have been so bowled over by the level of commitment and the level of passion, commitment and the love of the fosters you see in this organization.”

On a personal note, she says she always tries to bring her daughters to RMGDRI events so they can get to know Great Danes. “We have a goal of our own to move to a house with land so that we can adopt or become fosters,” she says. “My kids have fallen in love with them. They’re such a riot and childlike and have such personality. The RMDGRI has impacted us and our lives so much so that we do have that goal and we look forward to the day we can do that.”

To order from The Pet Food Courier, simply visit www.thepetfoodcourier.com or go to www.petfoodfundraiser.com/rmgdri/html. Shipping is always $5.00 and will be brought by local couriers with full background checks, screened for your safety.

“We do have clients that will give us their garage and gate codes, and we have a place of trust in their hearts,” Karen says.
