"...for if the dog be well remembered, if sometimes she leaps through your dreams actual as in
life, eyes kindling, laughing, begging, it matters not where that dogs sleeps. It is one to a dog,
and all one to you, and nothing is gained and nothing is lost - if memory lives.

Duke

Duke came to RMGDRI on Tuesday, January 31st 2006. We received a call yesterday morning from a man in Pueblo saying that he could not afford vet care and feared that his Dane was very sick. He had not eaten in 4 days and was very weak. He really loved Duke, but he knew he could not get him the care he so desperately needed so he reluctantly released him into our care.

When Duke arrived to Colorado Springs, he could hardly stand up. Our wonderful volunteer, Charlotte, immediately took him to East Springs Animal Hospital. Dr. Morgan gave him a thorough physical and he was promptly put on supportive therapy (IV fluids and meds) due to severe dehydration. We ran a blood panel and took an x-ray to see if we could figure out what was going on. The blood panel revealed highly elevated enzymes and liver failure, so we were extremely concerned!

Duke did not make it through the night. Despite the efforts of Dr. Morgan and the wonderful staff at East Springs, his liver was too severely damaged and he crossed the rainbow bridge sometime during the night. We are deeply saddened that we were unable to save this very sweet boy, but we will never forget him and are glad that he is no longer suffering and is now happily playing with all the other Danes in heaven!

Doc

Doc crossed the bridge the afternoon of 7-25-03 in the arms of the entire E-Springs hospital staff and one of our volunteers after suffering complications from Surgery. The hospital stuff went to heroic efforts to try to save him as did two of our volunteers' danes who donated blood.

Doc was full of life and affection and loved to share both. May you forever feel love.

Sampson
Sampson crossed the bridge on April 6, 2003 in the arms of love, never knowing that we were here to help him. At 10 yrs old, abandoned in a small town shelter, he had waited for his family to come and get him. They never came, no longer wanted him. Some loving people rescued him from the shelter, but it was already too late. Within an hour, the signs of bloat began. The stress was just too much for this old guy, he no longer had the will to live. We hope he felt our love in his final hours, and are glad that he was not alone, that someone was there to hold him, as he took his final breath.

Sarge

Sarge crossed the bridge on Feb. 17, 2003 in the arms of his Foster Dad. After a long battle with health issues, he is now free from his pain and in a place where he will always feel love.

We are saddened to not have found Sarge a forever home before his time arrived, but happy to know he is free to run and play.

Dyna
We shall always remember Dyna.
Her spirit, beauty and strength.
Thank you for touching our hearts.
Dyna crossed the bridge on 02/23/2002
in the arms of her foster parents.

Queen
On November 6, 2001 Queen took her trip, across
the Bridge. What turned out to be a brain tumor
took her life. She did not suffer and died in the
arms of people who cared for her.
Queen's body, specifically her bones, were donated to the Veterinary Hospital at Colorado State
University for their Bone Transplant Program and Cancer Research.
Thank You Queen for touching our lives.

Sunny D Light
Sunny came into RMGDRI on February 23, 2001. Our friend crossed
the bridge at 9:59 am MDT on 06/21/2001 after sever complications
from Wobblers surgery. Sunny was one of those very rare Great Danes
that captured the hearts of everyone he met.
Sunny had the most wonderful personality. He loved children and most of all there was not a person or other animal that Sunny did not like. He was always happy. Sunny touch the hearts of everyone he met. Sunny was adopted by Cathie and Jerry while he was still in the hospital. Sunny gave everything he had to recover from his surgery but in the end, passed on in the arms of his new Mom.
We know that Sunny is now running free. Unencumbered by his Wobblers. We will greatly miss Sunny's happiness.
To put it simply, he brightened up the day for everyone who met him.
We love you Sunny and we always will.

Abby
It is with great sorrow that that we announce that Abby passed away on January 22, 2001. Abby was a very special lady. She suffered greatly and was a very abused Dane. Joe and Rosemarie adopted Abby and gave her the best home possible. Abby never wanted for anything. She was kept healthy and received all the love and attention an owner could give. We at RMGDRI are all devastated by the loss of this most beautiful Great Dane. Abby represented everything about what a Great Dane is.
While Abby will not be with us in life,
she will never leave us in spirit
