Duke
Adopted 2-28-09
Duke's new Dad, Bob,
met us at Best Friends Pet Care where Duke had been going through
training. He rented a car and drove all the way from Montrose to
get him! Almost immediately, Duke was trying to shove his way into
Bob's lap for pets, and was working hard to let Bob know that he
needed love. We talked about all of Duke's hard work in training,
his progress, and how to continue on with it. Duke got to run around
in the yard for a good 20 minutes before the trip back to Montrose.
When we opened up the back door of his car, there was a brand new
bed and some toys in there for Duke to relax on on the ride home.
Duke jumped right up, took a sniff of the bedding, took a deep breath
as if to say "Finally, I'm going home..." and melted into
it, relaxing immediately. It was adorable. Bob has already spoken
with a trainer in Montrose, and will be continuing training with
Duke. He was taking pictures with his cell before he left Best Friends
as he couldn't wait to share with his kids the new addition to his
family! |

Bella
Adopted 2-28-09
Bella was the mama of
our parvo puppies and has gone through a lot in her short life.
We are happy to report that Calyn and Ryan of Boulder are now happy
to call her their own. Here what Calyn wrote to all her friends
after Bella's arrival....
"I am writing you
to let you know that after many months of wanting a dog, Ryan and
I finally adopted a Great Dane from the Rocky Mountain Great Dane
Rescue! Bella entered our family Friday evening and has pleasantly
surprised us with her laid back personality, love for affection
and ease with children, cats and other pooches.
Now that she has a forever
home she should gain weight and confidence. Ryan and I have been
working with her on basic commands and look forward to taking her
to the Humane Society for training classes in a few weeks. She is
eating well, a whopping eight to ten cups per day!
One of my favorite moments
with Bella so far was during the first night she spent with us.
She would not go to sleep and paced back and forth in front of our
bed whining. Finally after a couple of restless hours, we allowed
her on to the bed where she flopped down between us and slept the
whole night through. When my alarm went off at 7am the next morning
she just rolled onto her back and stuck her long front paws straight
up in the air like she had a question to ask... "do you love
me or what?" was all I could imagine was running through her
head. And yes, we love her more than ever."

Ebony
Adopted 3-6-09
Ebony is now a permanent
member of Jason life. Jason met Ebony at the I Love My Dog Expo
in Lincoln, Nebraska. He knew Ebony was the one!! Jason filled out
the application right there at the event. Jason was again happy
to see Ebony when she was able to go along on the Homecheck. Ebony
was very friendly, leaning, and sitting next to Jason. Once all
the "official" stuff was done, she was ready to go to
her forever home with Jason. When we arrived, Jason was out front
waiting to meet up with us. We completed the paperwork, she chewed
on her new nylabone, sniffed out her new bed, found her new water
and food dish and made herself right at home. We then took a little
stroll out to the dog area in the apartment commons and met up with
several new friends. Ebony will live a very happy and loved life
with Jason and will meet lots of new friends, and get lots of attention
and exercise. They are a great match. |

Holly
Adopted 3-7-09
Timing couldn't be better!!
Melissa (NE) has been waiting for a few weeks to choose a dog since
she was in school. Now the time has come! Meilissa has no other
pets and is new to the breed so Holly is a perfect match for her
to "get to know the breed". She walks extensively and
is an avid Omaha park visitor. She lives in a very dog friendly
townhome community where the residents "come together"
for dogs to stay socialized. Melissa has no children so Holly will
no doubt be spoiled. |

Maggie
Adopted 3-7-09
Maggie has been with
RMGDRI for a little over a year and was our longest foster resident
BUT we are happy to report that is no longer the case. Christopher
and Lisa along with their two children from Florissan, CO decided
that Maggie needed to be their dog. They have an older Golden Retriever
that needed a house mate and have no cats so Maggie will be in seventh
heaven. They were looking for an older Dane that their children
could love on and not be too rambunctious with their current dog.
Maggie couldn't have found a better family. |

Mia
Adopted 3-7-09
Mia rode very well with
Jenny Wetzel on the car ride back from NE to Denver to meet her
new family. Introductions went well and Phillip and his family were
thrilled with their new addition. They have a little dog that she
was very excited to meet, and greeted appropriately. She gave her
new dad a nice lean not too long after he took the leash. They had
a new collar and leash ready for her. Apparently this is "his"
dog...Mia's new mom said, "Now you've got your dog!" |

Superman
Adopted 3-21-09
Superman has gone home
with Sam in Englewood, Colorado! Superman graduated from our Board
& Train program with flying colors! And Sam met with our trainer
to learn how to work with Superman on an ongoing basis as part of
our Foster to Adopt program. This was a fit right from the start.
Sam has always had dogs and became acquainted with the breed through
a friend who had a Dane. He had been waiting for the perfect dog,
then Superman came along, and the rest, as they say, is history!
Sam's family includes two teenagers and a toddler so our "man
of steel" will always have lots of company! Sam is looking
forward to continuing to train Superman and ensure that he is well
socialized for the rest of his days. |
