Sugar was left at the Kansas Shelter after she was supposedly hit by a car. One of our volunteers spotted her and called us. The shelter did x-rays and thought that she had a dislocated shoulder but needed surgery to correct it. We transported Sugar to Colorado to have her seen by an orthopedic specialist. After further review, it was decided that Sugar was actually born without a joint in her shoulder. She has never used the leg so it was recommended that the leg be amputated to avoid injury in the future and to allow her to lie without having her leg "fold up: under her. |

Sugar had surgery on April 30, 2008 to have her front leg amputated. After 2 1/2 hours of reconstructive surgery, Sugar is a tripod and has proven to be a very good patient. She currently has a drain in that will stay for about 7-10 days and her sutures will stay for 14-21 days. She is doing VERY well and wanted to play by the second day home! She is a very happy girl and nothing seems to slow her down. She is a very special girl and her foster family is quickly falling in love with her. |
